The French Open (also referred to as the Roland Garros, named after an early French aviator) is another major tennis tournament that is held from the 25th of May until the 8th of June. It is held in Paris at the Stade de Roland Garros. The Roland Garros is held on clay courts and is the second major tennis tournament of the year after the Australian Open. Clay courts provide a high bounce and slow down the ball. Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are players who play well on these courts. The men's and women's singles winners take home a large $1.5 million. 2013's men's singles winner was Rafael Nadal, and women's singles winner is Serena Williams.
